I went to Molly's on Tuesday for the first time. I live in the neighborhood, but I always seem to forget about Molly's. Well according to many on Chowhound they have one of the best burgers in NYC.
I liked the atmosphere of the place, especially the sawdust and the fireplace. The cigarette smoke didn't bother me. In fact I didn't realize it until I went home and changed my shirt.
I ordered the cheeseburger medium rare with fries. The fries were good. The burger itself was charred on the outside and medium rare on the inside. Except I expected the inside to be juicy and tasty. Instead it was sort of dry and tastless. That coupled with the dry, charred outside of the burger left me thirsty and wondering if I had just hyped the place up too much in my mind.
Did I just catch them on a bad night? Or is this what I should have expected? If this is typical, I'll be searching for a new burger joint. Thoughts?
