Black vs White Sesame Seeds

I've recently been baking bread using both black and white sesame seeds. An earlier discussion here concluded that there's no difference in flavor, but I notice a distinct difference.

The white ones taste like, well, plain old sesame seeds. But the black ones seem have a slight, but definitely detectable, bitter taste that reminds me of Indian food.

So I'm wondering: does anyone else notice this difference or were my black sesame seeds just stored too close to the Indian spices at the store?
