Black Pearl and Aioli [Sacramento]

On my own for a couple of lunches while Lady PB slaved away at the Dept. of Ed. Thursday went to Black Pearl Oyster Bar on J Street. Started with the crab cakes, two moist, nicely seasoned patties @ 2 inches in diameter each. Lots of crab, minimal amount of filler. Followed up with the oyster po'boy that's been suggested by the local hounds, couldn't have been happier. Large meaty Hood Canal oysters on a thick but soft ciabatta roll with a tangy sauce and a side of nicely browned fries. Total with two glasses of sauv. blanc 30.00 incl tax/tip.

Friday, stopped in Aioli at 1800 L St. before heading down to Monterey. Nice charcuterie plate (although rather small) with paper thin slices of salami, prociutto, and manchego cheese with a few green and black tasty olives. Bread had a great hard crust with soft interior. Finished off with the mussels in a sherry wine broth, again small serving size but very tasty. Went well with a glass of Spanish white they were serving, @ 24.00 pre t/t, iirc.
