Black Camel (Adelaide)

Went there for lunch today with a friend. Have never been to their other location but had heard about it and was glad when I read about their Adelaide location on this board.

The space is nice, very clean and spacious with a large counter and a small open kitchen. There is even a surprisingly large back patio but they hadn't yet opened up any of the tables. No matter as it is too hot today to really enjoy sitting in the sun.

We both ordered the pulled pork sandwich with bbq sauce. I had caramelized onions on it while my friend did not.

Well, the sandwich was as wonderful as advertised, with a rich tangy bbq sauce redolent of molasses and perhaps espresso! Wish I could buy this stuff bottled! And the pork was soft and flavourful, and only the slightest bit greasy. While not true BBQ, it is a terrific new contender for the best pulled pork in TO. I was a bit disappointed in the texture of the onions, though, as they were a little tough. Slicing them a little thinner might solve this problem.

(Mess alert: if you eat one of these while sitting at one of their tables, all of which are like patio furniture with metal lattice tops, be sure to but something between you and your lap as I almost had a major mess on my hands when the sauce/oil dripped out of the sandwich, through the table and almost onto me! The wrapper the sandwhich comes served this purpose nicely).

While I loved the food I can't say that it was really good value as my sandwich and drink cost me just over $10. While I don't mind paying this for lunch, despite how terrific it was, I know I'm facing a major snack attack later this afternoon: it would be great if they could load you up on some sort of carb for an extra dollar or something.
