Had my first meal at this mexican restaurant a few weeks back. Food was consistently good - far better than any Mexican I've had in a few years. It's a VERY busy place especially on weekends and they do not take reservations for parties of less than 6 people - it's strictly show up and wait your turn. There were three of us - we ordered promptly, polished off our soup and chips/salsa, then lit into the entrees which were delivered piping hot and very quickly. Delicious meal and we didn't lag for conversation. Total elapsed time from when we were seated was about 35-40 minutes at most - our bill was now at about $35-40 - a bargain. I asked for a dessert menu and the waiter got a worried look. He advised that he'd "check with the manager" and returned a minute or two later to inform us that we would not be allowed to order dessert because its's "too busy and we need the table - other customers are waiting". I was flabbergasted and so disgusted that I simply paid the bill (with a 20% tip - I'm not blaming the waiter - he was just doing his job). I'm just curious to know if others have had this experience or if there were some unique circumstances. I'm contemplating sending a letter to to the owners but it's hard to believe that this sort of practice would be conducted without their tacit approval. 1) What would you do? 2) Any suggestions for other good mexican restaurants in this general part of north Jersey? Perhaps someplace where we could enjoy a flan and not get booted out the door first?
