Bistro Tournesol

Whata disappointment. We had heard very good things about Bistro Tournesol -- and after Toronto Life rated it higher than our neighborhood standy Le Paradis, we just had to check it out. Well, maybe they were having a bad night, but it was subpar from start to finish. The menu, to start with, struck us as slightly boring, but it seemd a cute place and the staff were very friendly so we soldiered on. Even when the wine's by the glass and the wine specials didn't inspire (safe and boring), we kept our chins up. The duck terrine appetizer was OK, the celeraic 'coleslaw' was a nice touch. But the mains were dreadful: a bouillabaise that was woefully overcooked and utilized a bland broth (sans rouille) was, unfortunately, matched with a very uninspired and poorly execeuted salmon. We cut our losses and skipped desert. Too bad. maybe we will return for a drink at the lovely and cozy bar area, but the restaurant just doesnt rate. (rumor has it the place has just been sold & perhaps that explains things somewhat)
