went today for father's day brunch. we didn't have a reservation, but they gave us a seat up front for 4 anyhow at about 12 noon. we put in an order for a spinach salad, bagel, goat cheese salad sans balsamic dressing, a salmon frittata and eggs florentine w/ a side of fries. we could immediately tell the waitress was a rookie thrown into the fire- she didn't know what was in the salmon plate when asked. it turned out to be just a plate of smoked salmon. the goat cheese salad showed up first w/ balsamic. nothing else came for at least 15 minutes. we returned the salad to get it w/o the balsamic. still no food for another 5 minutes. we asked what the hold up was and she said the kitchen was a bit crazed. at ths point, the place was maybe half full. then after asking again 5 minutes later, everything showed up except the bagel. we asked where the bagel was and the newbie said that they ran out and had to go buy some.
the owner/manager had probably hired 2 guys to play live music on the guitars. after they were done, the younger guy came around w/ a basket, soliciting money. he was european and perhaps this is par for the course there, but i felt a bit offended that wanted us to put in a dollar for 'whatever we felt the music was worth'
if the owner hires them, shouldn't he pay them also instead of have them at the mercy of the customers? we gave them 3 singles.
other parties had to go up w/ their drinks to have them exchanged b/c it was the wrong thing. others had to go up to get the change for their checks. and the owner, who i believe is the one who sits upfront at the bar reading a paper, doesn't give a rat's butt about how his customers are enjoying their meals.
he must've noticed there were issues w/ the service. but yet chose to rest his obese self on the chair and have champagne, chocolate cake and the rest of his meal.
our total was bout $70 and i tipped them $6 bucks.
