Bistro Joe's- Birmingham, MI

I know Bistro Joe's has been mentioned on this board a couple of times but I wanted to create a stand alone thread because I'm super into this restaurant right now.

We went again on Friday, this time to check it out for dinner and had an excellent meal. Our server, Miranda, was great--attentive, helpful in picking the right items and telling us when we were about to order too much.

For starters we went with the Takushi (our new favorite word) because we literally saw plate after plate of these mini-tacos being paraded out to all the tables. They were delicious!! It's mini tuna tartar tacos with lots of delicious toppings. It came with 4 and while that was enough for a starter we could have eaten another plate.

For my main course I ordered the oven roasted snapper which came in a delicious tomato sauce with olives, potatoes, capers and rosemary. The platting on this dish (as with all the other dishes) was great---served in a cast iron pot.

My fiance ordered seafood cataplana which was filled with perfectly cooked shellfish and homemade pasta. There was a ton of cream sauce (perhaps a little too much) but it was citrusy and light and went well with the seafood. This also was served in a very cool copper pot.

For dessert we couldn't resist the brownie ala mode. It was served in a mason jar and everything was just piled on top of the hot brownie---so good.

I'm such a fan of this place! I recently moved to Michigan and this is the first restaurant I've tried where I've gotten really, really excited by the food. We went for lunch a few weeks ago and I had a stellar tuna Nicoise salad.

Our waitress told us they are starting to work in a new menu to be more reflective of the fall. I love that the ingredients are so fresh and seasonal!

We'll be back soon.
