Bistro du Nord v. Brasserie v. ??? for out-of-town guests?

Denis | Aug 11, 2004 01:39 PM

Going to dinner tonight with my out-of-town cousins and others and have been asked to choose a "bistro-y" place. I think they're wanting something straightforward (I'd consider Jarnac or Les Enfants Terribles otherwise), and I think Brasserie might appeal to them due the decor and scene. Also, they're staying on the UES I think, and so I'm gravitating toward that general area.

Any recent experiences on Bistro du Nord or Brasserie? I know the latter isn't so chow-y to begin with, and I've heard it can be inconsistent. Don't know much about the former except from Zagats.

Le Bateau Ivre also came to mind, but I don't know anything about it really and couldn't find recent substantive info on CH.

Any other suggestions or tips?
