Biscuits without baking powder or self rising flour?

Chandler114 | Apr 4, 201805:51 PM     22

My boyfriend and I like to make as much from scratch as possible. If we can't make one of the ingredients, then we don't want to make the main dish. We've both been discussing biscuits. We're from the south and want to make biscuits from scratch, only we don't want to use baking powder, baking soda, or self rising flour because these are things that you cannot make at home. (I mean, you can create baking soda but that's another discussion) so does anyone know a way to make biscuits that does not involve baking soda, baking powder, or self-rising flour? Unbleached white flour or whole wheat flour is fine but basically, if we can't create it in the kitchen, or grow/mill it in the garden we don't want to use it. I know they won't turn out like "typical" biscuits. But people were eating bread/baking biscuits for thousands of years before baking soda, baking powder, self-rising flour got involved. Drop or rolled biscuits are fine. But does anyone have any ideas? I have tried searching on Google and no one seems to know how to do it! They either use baking powder instead of baking soda, or calls for self-rising flour. Thanks!
