I've dissed their pastries for a long time: scones like bricks, rubbery croissants, etc., but I've hung in there for their fine espresso and good vibes. The other day I couldn't resist the banana-brioche bread pudding, which I'd seen many times but resisted, thinking, it can't be as good as it looks. But it was, possibly, even better than it looked. Not perfect (the interior was a bit dry in spots), but scrumptious nonetheless: not too heavy, with yummy, soft, caramelized banana on the top that morphed into a crisp, fully caramelized crust around the outer edge. Really quite unusual for bread pudding.
Anyone else a fan, and have you ever seen a bread pudding recipe that yields similar results (esp the caramelized crust)? It's a deal, too, at $3 for a gargantuan wedge. Any other gems lurking amid the general dross of their pastry collection?
