birthday lunch review: JoJo

I asked a few days ago where to take my "foodie" friend for his birthday, and I finally settled on JoJo. So glad I did, too! They had the $20 prix-fixe lunch special, which was quite a deal, but none of the choices really appealed to us, so we ordered off the menu.

I started with scallop and zucchini ravioli in a buttermilk sauce, which was incredible. The ravioli were tender as can be and the sauce definitely was more butter than milk. I wanted to lick my plate.

For my main course, I had slow-baked salmon on a bed of bright green mashed potatoes (seasoned with basil?), with pickled ramps. This, too, was amazing. The salmon was so tender and perfectly cooked, and it was seasoned with chunky grains of salt.

Dessert was just okay-- I had the pineapple bread pudding with caramelized milk ice cream.

JoJo is definitely not overrated... though the seating (cramped banquettes that make it nearly impossible not to elbow your neighbor) left much to be desired.
