Birthday dinner - prefer to avoid RW places

aniatb | Jan 13, 201711:17 AM

It's that time of year again. When my birthday *luckily* coincides with restaurant week. My husband and I have a sitter lined up for next Saturday the 21st and are trying to decide on a place to eat, very preferably one that does not participate in restaurant week - or if it does, does so well and is worth it. Hoping for something with nice ambience, preferably not too loud, a view would be nice, but that's probably a long shot. Food wise, we like a lot of different things, but tend to go to your typical California cuisine/continental type restaurants. e.g., were it not RW, we would likely got to Mr. A's, Marine Room, George's Modern, Top of the Market, something like that.

Places we are considering that don't appear on the RW list include:

Herb & Wood - never been
Juniper & Ivy - kinda loud for our tastes
A.R. Valentien
Addison - never been, a bit pricey, a bit far

Thoughts on the above or anything else anyone would recommend? We used to really love Mistral in Coronado. Ambience was great and so wast the food. Seems they changes chef/menu a while back and it just doesn't look as enticing anymore. Anyone been more recently or have an insight?

Thanks so much for your suggestions!

Mister A's,
A's Pizza and Grill,
The Marine Room,
Herb & Wood,
Juniper & Ivy
