birthday dinner in manhattan vs. blue hill at stone barns brunch

i know it's not in manhattan, but has anybody been to BH@SB for Sunday brunch?

my family wants to take my boyfriend and me out for a nice dinner for my birthday in june. (yup, my grad student budget has limited my fine-dining to the point that i am already plotting a meal six weeks away. :) )

i thought i might take advantage of their generosity as well as their car and use this opportunity to check out BH@SB.

thing is...there will be five of us eating, and at least two of the people (mom and brother) would be equally happy with ramen noodles. so...$50 or $65 a person before wine or dessert times 5 just seems excessive when only two, maybe three of us will actually be really appreciating the food.

kicking out mom and brother is not an option, before you suggest it. :)

so i thought...maybe brunch? less expensive...they eat all kinds of brunch stuff! is it delicious? would sunday afternoon be a better time than saturday night to check out the stone barns center anyway?

and now the manhattan part...if brunch and time at BHSB doesn't seem like a special fun birthday experience, i'm open to other special-occasion dinner suggestions that don't mandate prix fixes, so my non-foodie family members don't have to embark on a wasted culinary adventure.

as you might have guessed, they're not too adventurous, culinarily speaking. i was hoping for new american/italian.

i've taken them to gotham and mesa grill and they loved both of those, but i'd like to do something new for my birthday. :) no babbo, because i am super-lucky and my boyfriend plans to take me there the night before. :)
