Birmingham: tortas, Indian food

I made a return trip today to Taqueria Mexico on Lorna Road in Hoover (after a stop at Spice World Indian market -- this is my Hoover). They make some of the best carnitas I've had here. They do $1.50 tacos (one tortilla, Dax), but their tortas are a mere $3.50. All the usual suspects: carnitas, lengua, pastor, etc. They also do a quail dish that was pretty good when I tried it some time back.

On the Indian front, I'm glad to report that Taj India finally seems to be reacting to the competition it's getting from Silver Coin in Hoover. I had lunch there recently, and really enjoyed a spicy ground lamb dish they had and some sort of pickled cabbage in addition to the usual offerings of dal and chicken tikka. For awhile there, they seemed to be coasting and forgetting they no longer are the only (decent) game in town.
