Anyone else been to Binkley's? It is up in Cave Creek just west of Scottsdale Rd. We just went this weekend and had a great meal - I will definitely go back. It is a friendly, intimate place with the owners running the show on the premises. The chef apparently worked at some pretty prestigious restaurants - French Laundry and Inn at Little Washington. They change the menu daily and the wine list is very good too.
They have a nice way of doing "tasting menus." You can choose 4, 5 or 6 courses. We all opted for 4 courses: cold app, hot app, meat or fish entree, and cheese plate or desert. $50 for the 4 courses, which are smaller portions than if you order the dishes ala carte.
I started with roasted beet salad with hazelnuts and microgreens, then seared scallops with cheesy grits, then halibut with orzo and clams, and finished with the cheese plate. My wife had foie gras terrine, agnoletini (sp?) stuffed with fava beens, copper river salmon done 3 ways, and apple fritters with vanilla ice cream and cinammon syrup.
Really enjoyed every dish but the pasta and beet salad stood out for me. Also the cheese selection was terrific - more than 40 cheeses, not that I knew what they all were.
It was a pretty expensive meal - with wine and tip about $75 / person or maybe more. Of course, you could spend less ordering ala carte but the tasting menu is fun and you get to try more. In comparison to other high end places I've been to in the valley, I would definitely go back here any time.
