A Big Thak You! and a few observations

Faren | Aug 1, 200305:44 PM

First a great big thank you to all of you who so generously spent time to give me suggestions about NO, food, music etc. My husband and I spent 3 great days (heat and all) in your very beautiful and friendly city. We'll defintely return. We lunched at Acme's (oysters raw and fried, rice and beans and sauage), Camilla's Grill (I loved the omlette, burger and freezes), and NOLA (just great)

For dinner we went to Bayona and had a lovely meal . It was interesting that the maitre'd assured us that Spicer was in residence and overseeing it all. I got the impression from speaking with NO foodies I met that Spicer has been absent and that the feeling was that the place had suffered because of it. Is this correct? But all was well and the sweetbreads were some of the best I've ever had. I also had a fabulous dessert- fresh peaches layered in a martini glass, with buttermilk panna cotta and a dollop of caramel at the bottom of the glass. So good!
We also went to Gabrielle who I think must be one of the best chef's in America right now. We had bbq shrimp pie (i've never eaten anything like this), the homemade sausages, lamb chops, duck, peacan chocolate chip studded pie. All unbelievable. The food was just infused with flavor. Just fabulous!
Last we went to Feelings Cafe on Charters and Franklin (in Bywater?)A striclty local place. And again we were so pleased. The service was friendly and we had a great time talking with the waiter and other patrons. BBQ Shrimp (very spicy), shrimp etouffe, a very impressive medley of rice, crayfish, shrimp and crab served over a perfectly fried slice of eggplant topped with a hollandaise type sauce. Very yummy. Husband had tender and flavorful pork medallions with sweet potato in a mustard sauce. For dessert we had coffee and shared a french silk - peanut butter pie. We did not have wine, but the drinks we're huge, cold and tasty. Very reasonable - before tip but with tax $89.00 Best of all Feelings is housed in an old plantation house that was owned by a free family of color that is said to be haunted.(but I didn't see the ghost!) The waiter gave us a tour after we finished dinner. After dinner we took a cab to nearby frenchmen street to listen to music at Snug Harbor. All together a fun night.

My husband now has total faith in my ChowHound network (he always teases me about this board) and also thanks you all. I'm in NYC/Brooklyn and hope I can return the recommendation favor sometime.
