Last spring before the Pfeiffer Bridge re-opened, I headed toward Big Sur River Inn for lunch. At the time, the restaurant was only supporting lunch service. Other options were available for take-out.
The General Store at the Big Sur River Inn offers sandwiches and burritos to-go at the Burrito Bar.
Food service starts at 8am with breakfast burritos.
A rehabilitated vintage bus houses a coffee bar and ice cream station.
Take-out purchases can be enjoyed on the lawn down by the river. But be sure to check with the staff, as policies have been shifting. Some days, a Taco Bar is set up on the lawn as well.
Since it was a little chilly, I opted for lunch indoors in the restaurant at a table overlooking the patio.
The appetizer of buttermilk fried tri tip caught my eye. I ordered it despite being worried that the beef would be overcooked. That turned out to be needless. The cubes of battered beef stayed moist and tender under the crispy crust. Served with warm sausage gravy and BSRI barbecue sauce, I liked this but it was the kind of dish that's meant for sharing.
