Big Sur & Central Coast Hwy 1 Closures [and Updates]

Due to the damage to Pfeiffer Bridge and landslides in recent storms, Highway 1 is expected to remain closed at Big Sur and further south for at least six months (and likely longer).

Since visitors usually approach from the north, the road closure will devastate destinations in San Luis Obispo County as well, Hearst Castle in San Simeon, Cambria, Cayucos, etc.

Yet perhaps it represents an opportunity to visit the area when it is less congested while the rest of the world is shying away. This is a good time to plan some travel to California's Central Coast.
