Thank you Chowhound for pointing me in the right direction. I went with my girlfriend to the Farmer's Market in Watts on Saturday (really great prices on produce, they even had a stand Certified Organic). As for the area, I felt safe. I'd advise people to get out of their comfort zone and broaden your horizons and come on down.
Gosh the pulled pork sandwich was amazing, I love it they give you the sauce on the side so you can taste the meat and control your sauce portions. Meat was rich and smoky, not too smoky and the sauce had a really nice peppery tang.
Oh the beef brisket was marvelous with a nice crust, moist, and a good smoke ring. The wood used was not too overpowering so you had a nice marriage of meat, smoke, and just a little gobbets of fat here and there to really smooth things out and give a really nice flavor.
Ribs were excellent, I was able to get the quarter rack. Again, good smoke flavoring, and toothsome. Not mushy and falling off the bone like commercial places.
What really impressed me was the care taken with the smoke and the wood choice, I'd love to know which wood they used, definitely unique.
I'm definitely gonna be back again. The Los Angeles area has a bonafide BBQ place now. Back in the car me and my girlfriend were talking about how awesome it would be to get our wedding catered by Big Mista's. Yep, it's that good.
