Big Cola from Mexico

Anyone else tried it? If so, I’d be interested in hearing your opinion.

I know that Mexican Coca Cola made with cane sugar has been discussed here and has many fans. I recently came across Big Cola from Mexico which is also made with cane sugar. It tasted just a slight bit sweeter than Coke but not nearly as sweet as Pepsi. As far as my own taste is concerned, I would say that it’s just as good or better than Coke from Mexico. However, there is a huge difference in value. I have only seen Mexican Coke in (approx.) 12 oz glass bottles selling for about $1 per bottle. Big Cola comes in a 2.5 liter plastic bottle (with a red label like Coke) and also sells for one dollar. There were a few other flavors displayed but I didn’t pay much attention to them.

So far I have only seen it at the Big Saver market at the corner of N. Figueroa & Ave. 26 in Cypress Park. I would assume that other Big Saver locations also carry it but they are all in L.A.’s eastside.

I found out that it is a Peruvian bottler named Ajegroup that owns the Big Cola brand. They have expanded into other Latin American countries. But their primary target right now is Coca Cola’s share of the bottled soda market in Mexico. According to Reuters, Mexico is the world's biggest per-capita consumer of soft-drinks.
