A new H. K. style seafood/dim sum restaurant, Big China Seafood, has opened up in Chinatown at the old Golden Palace site on Broadway, most recently occupied by Gourmet Carousel. When it opened up about 3 weeks ago there were lines waiting to get in at lunchtime, and even this past week the restaurant was largely occupied by 11 am. However, this activity is probably only reflective of the rush-to-try-the-new-restaurant syndrome that possesses Chinese diners like myself. Not to say that there was anything wrong with Big China Seafood, but in a town where good dim sum is passe, this is just another good dim sum place with nothing to make it stand out. Small dim sum items are $1.60 (weekdays at least) and lunch for four came to a reasonable $26.
