Big Bubba's BBQ - Quick Review

JimS | Nov 7, 2005 09:40 AM

I went to Mohegan Sun on Saturday with a large group (16 ppl) and had dinner at Big Bubba's BBQ. Overall it was a positive experience. Good food in a fun setting. Here are some specific thoughts/observations (as always, IMHO):
- Very courteous hostesses apologized when our reserved table was not avaialable because another party was lingering. (plus)
- They sat us about 15 min late and the table was woefully too small. They tried to shove together three rounds and squeeze sixteen chairs around it. It would have been too small for 16 children let alone 16 grown men. (minus)
- Our waiter (and the manager) added an additional two-top after some hemming/hawing, which made the seating reasonable, but still not comfortable. (neutral)
- Good beer selection on tap. (plus)
- We ordered several orders of each side for the table and I'd rate them above average for a BBQ joint (they completely met my expectations). (plus)
- I ordered a special - dry rubbed baby back ribs - and they were tasty, just not dry rubbed. There was some sort of bbq sauce slathered on them while they were cooked. They were good, just not as advertised. I took an informal poll and most everyone was pleased with their meals. While it wasn't the best bbq I've had, it certainly was far from the worst. (plus)
- It took a long time for our meals to hit the table after ordering (60 minutes). This may be due to the size of our group or the typical Sat night rush, but it seemed too long. (minus)
- The waitstaff was incredibly attentive and took very good care of us. (plus)

In the end, it was the right place for our group and I would recommend it for someone headed to MS. It's definitely a more casual dining option than some of the other restuarants there. It's not a place I'd drive very far to take in, but a good option if your in the mood for 'q in the casino. Reservations on weekends are essential for groups over four.
