I just went to this place after a recent mention in Newsday. It is a casual spot located about 3/4 mile south of Hempstead Turnpike, on Uniondale Avenue. The menu includes New Orleans specialties (gumbo, etouffe, po' boys) and barbecue (ribs, pork, chicken, brisket). What a great combination!
Even better is that the food is very good. I only had a chance to sample the chopped pork sandwich and crawfish gumbo and found both very tasty. They use a real smoker behind the restaurant. A far cry above the faux 'cue at Famous Dave's restaurant that opened not too far away in Westbury.
I look forward to returning to try the ribs (recommended by the owner who claims he knows all about 'cue having tried all the local places in addition to the legendary Arthur Bryant's).
