Bianca in Bryn Mawr

We finally tried Bianca in Bryn Mawr this weekend (same owners as Savona). Our reaction was mixed. Starters were very good. I liked the zucchini blossoms stuffed with goat cheese mousse that I ordered. Others at the table had an octopus special (small portion, but delicious and not at all chewy), and a grilled Caesar salad (also good). The main courses were a little weaker. My dining companions had a very good halibut dish and short ribs that were tasty, but a little fatty. I really disliked my order of sea bass with clams and mussels in a bouillabaisse sauce. The fish did not taste fresh, and the sauce was unpleasant. For dessert, we shared we shared bourbon bread pudding with banana ice cream and caramel sauce (yum) and apple tart with vanilla gelato (pretty good). Overall, the service was good (except no one reacted when we were asked how our food was and I responded that my fish wasn’t very good). My other gripe was paying $10 for a very stingy pour of Chardonnay. Even though I didn’t like my fish, we’re planning to give it another try.
