Help a bi-coastal couple find fun, relaxed dining in the downtown area

My boyfriend's flying in from NYC next weekend (Thurs to Sun) for a conference which is taking place at the Marriott at Figueroa and Third st. downtown. We'll be having dinner together every night after he's done with the conference activities. What are some restaurants in that area (preferably within walking distance, or short drive) that
1) we can get into without reservations or on short notice (since our schedules will depend on the conference)
2) that won't be too expensive (since we're eating out four nights in a row)
and 3) that has a good atmosphere (b/c we're bi-coastal, we have to savor every moment we're actually together!)

We love ethnic foods and are open to all kinds of cuisines.

Hope that's not too tall of an order!
Thanks.
