It must be my lucky week. Yesterday I got a raise, and today something even better happened: I finally found a place that makes Berliners! I was going to get a pastry from Citizen Cake, but they are closed today, so I went to Arlequin on Hayes to get one of their croissants. That's when I saw that they now make Berliners. These are basically doughnut balls (but denser, not fluffy) filled with jam or custard and rolled in sugar, like Payard Patisserie's boules de Berlin, but Arlequin's are a bit smaller. I actually forgot to find out what Arlequin calls these goodies. They had 3 kinds: unfilled, raspberry jam, and custard. I tried the raspberry jam kind and it was everything I was looking for. (I would have tried custard too but still wanted that croissant.) I will be going back very soon!!
