Berkeley Restaurant

Now that Sun Hong Kong in downtown Berkeley is closing (their sign says and a waiter told me this weekend is it), I would like to make people aware of a very good Chinese Restaurant in downtown Berkeley. The restaurant is called the May Flower located at 2156 University Ave (the last block on University, a couple of blocks up from Sun Hong Kong).

The Chowhound website is an excellent source for discovering underrated and unknown restaurants and the May Flower qualifies as a good, underrated find. I have absolutely no affiliation with the restaurant. I have eaten there several times with my family over the past couple of months, we really like the place quite a bit and would like to share this discovery with other chowhounds.

We enjoy eating there because; 1) the food is very food, 2) the prices are very reasonable, 3) the owners/staff are an extremely nice, hardworking Chinese immigrant couple who are very likable and 4) they serve Dim Sum all day. People will be very pleased with the atmosphere, the quality of the food and the prices. So if you are looking for a good Chinese restaurant in downtown Berkeley now that Sun Hong Kong is closing or don’t want to wait in line at Great China (which we also enjoy), I would recommend the May Flower. I think you will be pleased.

Thanks to everybody including the Webmaster who contribute and make this site a fun and valuable resource for Bay Area dinners. I have taken my family to a number of excellent places that we have found on this site. Happy dining to everyone
