Berkeley: La Bedaine - Paris-Brest ... a cream puff, but better

Today there were what appeared to be cream puffs for $2.

They are called Paris-Brest, a French dessert, made of choux pastry filled with a light-as-clouds, smooth-as-silk, praline cream, topped with slivered almonds and dusted with powdered sugar.

This is a pretty good photo of what it looks like with more info.

The blogger writes "in 1891 france launched its first bicycle race from paris to brest (and back again to paris). an entrepreneurial-minded french pastry baker with a shop along the route, decided to dedicate a pastry to the race and created a circular eclair that was to resemble bicycle tires"

I'm guessing this site has all the different shapes that are sold by bakeries in France

Out of everything I've had at La Bedaine, this is at the top of the list ... neck in neck with those smoked sausages. Don't miss it.
