Berkeley (4th St) - Wine.com Retail Store

rworange | Feb 18, 201009:06 PM

The website says of the retail location "Over 360 wines to peruse on the floor, over 2,500 wines in the adjoining warehouse to peruse online (computer kiosk in back of store).

What I thought was a nice touch was EVERY bottle had a tag with a brief description and the Wine Spectator points.

I asked about bargains and they said that wines on the shelves next to the register are 10% off. Any wines on sale have prices noted in red.

I didn't take a close look. The staff seems really nice. According to Yelpers they are knowledgable. Of the wines I buy regularly at real wine stores (not Grocery Outlet bottom-feeding), the prices didn't seem any real bargain, but about average.

I did a really quick walk around the store. It seems they put together gift baskets there as well and you can find items like Teddy bears, bath salts, food, wine books, dvds, body lotions, for $0.50 - $2.00 each. I really didn't see any of this stuff. All I saw was racks of wine. They also may have occasional warehouse sales. Someone mentioned discount coupons on the counter , but that was a while ago.

I was on my way to check out the location of the new Vik's when I noticed the Wine.com Retail Store. The shop has been open about two years.

So have any Chowhounds checked out the place and what do you think about it?
