With the High Holidays approaching, we had a yen for some good old-fashioned Jewish deli and a visit to Ben's on Central Park Ave. in Scarsdale satiated our most recent cravings. This is the food that I grew up with, and every time I sit at one of these spots it always brings back memories. To me, there is nothing better than a Kosher-style hot dog with mustard and sauerkraut, or a good hearty knish. It is my soul food.
We got over to Ben's on an early afternoon this past week and the place was quiet. They had recently reopened due to the Covid pandemic. The dining room was ours, and our waitress and staff greeted us warmly as we entered. She immediately brought us platters of their delish coleslaw and sweet & sour pickles and we went at them with gusto. We decided to fill up the table with a big bowl of Matzo Ball Soup with noodles, overstuffed Deli Double Sandwiches with tender and tasty corned beef & pastrami on soft challah rolls, and sides of Kasha Varniskes and fat deli-style crinkle-cut French fries. A glass of Baron Herzog Chardonnay and a retro-Dr. Browns Cream Soda kicked it up a notch, too. We loaded up and what a feast is was.
Thanks for the memories...www.bensdeli.net
