Hi, everyone. I'll be part of a party of 4 New Yorkers in Bennington this Friday and Saturday (two of us will actually be there till Monday, but we have to get a train back on Saturday). I understand our hotel provides some kind of breakfast if we want it, but we're interested in recommendations of good places for lunch and dinner - no more than mid-20s at most for entrees for dinner, less for lunch.

I'm not sure what to make of the Yelp eatery ratings for Bennington, because the highest-rated place - Elm Street Market, with 5 stars - is described as a proud purveyor of Boar's Head products, which are merely OK and not artisanal. Mind you, we could easily go there for a sandwich for lunch, but I wouldn't go out of my way for Boar's Head. The Brown Cow Cafe gets 4 1/2 stars and sounds more artisanal, from the descriptions. Lil’ Britain gets the same rating for fish & chips, which my girlfriend and I enjoyed when we were in London, and so does Crazy Russian Girls Neighborhood Bakery, though that would be for after the meal. :-) There are also various places that get 4 stars and have some reasonably recent reviews: Blue Benn Diner, South Street Cafe, Allegro Ristorante, Papa Pete’s, Ramunto’s Pizza and The Publyk House (but a couple of "elites'" reviews last year were poor).

Do you think all of these places are going to be mobbed on Friday and Saturday, and that we will need reservations?

The Brown Cow Cafe,
Lil' Britain,
Ramunto's Brick Oven Pizza,
The Publyk House
