Benjamin's, Old Saybrook

I had heard on the radio that Mirabelle, the Saybrook bakery, had started serving dinner, so we attempted to drop in on Sunday evening and found it was closed -- the sign said they were understaffed and only open Tues-Fri.

So we crossed Main Street and tried Benjamin's, and were very pleasantly surprised. Simple, inexpensive, and good. A mixture of pastas, seafoods, poultry, and meats, all done with an Italian flair. Some creative combinations. A nice big basket of ciabatta bread to start. Excellent Shiraz by the glass. And the best thing about this place in the pricey shoreline environment: the entrees ranged from $8.95 - $18.95, appetizers from $3.95-$7.95. Not hard to have a great meal on a budget there. We will be back.
