Bengal Coast (DFW)

It just opened in the Centrum. Its from the people that brought you Pei Wei (which sucks) and Tin Star (which is great). Too bad this place is another Pei Wei.

While it bills itself as asian fusion, its no more asain that a hot dog at the ball park. "Somosas" include pork and mozzerela cheese, which tasted like a deep fried taco, not bad but not asian.Chicken skewers were marinated in cream cheese--also OK but not asain.

The meals were incredibly bland and poorly prepared. Crispy beef was soggy. It was supposed to come with pad thai but came with over cooked spaghetti. Neither the beef nor the noodles had any flavor, save for some pepper. Chicken curry looked better but was equally bland. Ive never had a curry with literally no taste--until I came here. Im not sure how they even did that.

Service was friendly but incompetent. When the server asked how our food was and we said "really bad," he laughed. I suspect it was because he was nervous. We said that we only told him that because we figured they would want feedback as they just opened. He laughed some more. He never told the manager (at least no one came over) and billed us for everything when we ate almost nothing.

I dont think this was a case of newly opened issues. Its an intentional effort to americanize asain food to try to better suit the american pallette. It doesnt work, at least not here.
