Bella Vista

Got invited to a birthday party in Little Italy tonight at Bella Vista, close to Grace and College.

Appetizers: bruschetta pizza, with a nice topping but an undercooked doughy crust; really nice grilled calamari, a dish I rarely like but was competently done; and an antipasto plate that was reasonably priced but uninspired with tasteless mozzarella, grilled red pepper and eggplant and small portions of unremarkable cured meats.

Main: Linguini Pescatore in a white wine sauce. Seafood was deftly seared, almost surprising after the uninspired appetizers, and the sauce was worth an extra portion of bread to sop it up with (sue me, I'm from manitoba).

Dessert: Ok Tiramisu. Competent but nothing to write home about. Nice with Espesso however.

Wine List: lots by the glass at reasonable prices ($5.50-8), but stick with the house pinot grigio ($5.50) as the premium stuff isn't worth it (note I stuck with whites due to my food choices).

Overall, a reaonably priced but uninspired meal.
