Two and a half weeks ago I posted a request asking where to eat in the Raleigh-Durham area (and on the way there from Washington DC). Many many thanks to those who answered!
On the way down we stopped for lunch at Comfort in Richmond. Fabulous catfish sandwich and mac and cheese fortified us for the rest of the trip (driving rainstorm, Mapquest issues). Later that evening we took a chance and popped into the Magnolia Grill, thinking that it would be easier to get an unbooked table on Thursday than on Friday. We were right, and we had a fantastic meal (rabbit, halibut), a great bottle of wine, and the best cheesecake ever (goat cheese with a hazelnut crust and blueberry compote). So good I had to buy the cookbook. Finally, barbecue at Allen and Son--a great introduction to NC barbecue for transplanted Michigander and Californian. So much better than anything available here (faint praise, I know...). On the way out of town we picked up a couple of pounds and a jar of sauce for the road, and ate every scrap.
So thank you for making this quick conference trip worthwhile. Now I want to go back so that, among other things, we can try Vin Rouge!
