I posted a few months ago looking for help as I was coming into town for a job interview. Due to a busy, stress-filled interview process that is now a blur I didn't get out to eat as much as had hoped but did hit Ranch Market, In-n-Out and a Glendale Mexican take-out place that I think was called Tortas Presa (?). All were thrilling visits for this New Yorker.
One highlight for me was the aguas frescas at Ranch Market. The friendly woman actually laughed out loud at my happiness with the delicious, refreshing treat. The horchata was also the best I ever had. I highly recommend RM for solo diners as well - it's so busy and crazy with tons of people-watching opportunities.
The interview went well, and next week I'm in PHX for an apartment-hunting trip. For this visit, I've planned to try out Los Sombreros, Fry Bread House and Greasewood Flats - unless it's too hot to go?
I will be permanent to the area in mid-July and am excited to catch up with you all in trying out local spots.
