As you walk out of the Night Market, towards Wangfujing [not the direction of the Forbidden city], after the end of the rows of stalls, just before you get to Wangfujing, on the same side of the street as one of those wretched "art gallerys", round the corner from the statute of the kids in the big bronze shoes, there was a restaurant on the left called "Chinese Dumpling." No name in Chinese, just the words "Chinese Dumplings" in a faux cursive writing over the door. The decor was flourescent light and communal tables with rocky stools, the menu limited to dumplings and sides, the dumplings oh so yummy.
We went there in fall 2001, in January 2004, in October 2004 and multi times in the summer of 2005. Now we are headed back to Beijing and the chow pups are sooooo looking forward to visiting their very favorite dumpling place.
I know LOTS of Beijing isn't there anymore, that something that was there on a Monday may be gone by Friday but can anyone who may have walked by---or may be walking by--that corner recently, tell me if Chinese Dumpling is still there? I've looked on google earth and the building itself appears intact.
Just hoping to prepare my kids if they are doomed to disappointment......
