Just a quick invite to anyone still on the fence about whether to attend the ChowSocial at the Bohemian Beer Garden this Sunday afternoon. Chowhound at its core is about community as much as it is about food. Like the meals we discuss, the boards can be comforting, challenging, informative, and sometimes contentious, but is always tremendously entertaining. All the site really does is reflect the combined knowledge and opinions of individual members like yourself who want to share your sense of wonderment and joy when trying a great dish for the first time. Everyone contributes, either by sharing treasured tips or by receiving them with an open mind and a willing palate.
Every so often, the opportunity comes to meet some of your fellow hounds in person, to mingle whilst sharing food and drink. Ive had the pleasure of attending these gatherings on several past occasions and have consistently been delighted and impressed with the diverse and fascinating crowd that shows. The best part is that its always a different mix of people who can come on any given day its quite a motley selection of chowvets and newbies, lurkers and posters alike all are welcome and all wind up having a good time. This time itll be another voluntary potluck, no obligation to bring anything at all but yourself, but feel free to share your best finds. There will be a drool-inducing selection of stuff from all around the tri-state region to taste -- we had an enormous quantity at the No Idea bash and this one is shaping up to be even bigger. Abbylovi will be glad to make suggestions about what to bring for anyone running dry on inspiration.
Heres what you can expect this Sunday: Im told the Beer Garden is huge, but there will be a chowhound section of tables somewhere that youll find eventually. Once you find the group, someone will greet you, sell you a $5 raffle ticket and give you a nametag that you can do whatever you like with. There will also be a table set up somewhere with donated items for a silent auction being held to support the site, so please check that out. Other tables will hold a large selection of tasty bits add anything youve brought to the bounty, order the beverage of your choice, then commence to wandering and noshing. Think of it as very loosely organized ChowChaos, with crumbs aplenty to delineate our section of the Beer Garden. Talking with your mouth semi-full at some point during the afternoon is de rigueur, and you get bonus points for dribbles on your shirt. Youll find at least one new dish that you love and at least one new friend who youll thoroughly enjoy talking with so what better way to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon than in the Beer Garden with food, fun and friends both new and old? Please come, were all waiting to meet you
