If you like trying a variety of craft beers there are some very nice opportunities in Melbourne these days.
Foresters - corner of Smith and Gertrude - nice selection, big space, lots of seating, pizzas til 2 am, sandwiches from 12-4, the cubano was good w beer.
Cookie - on Swanston St, drawback is that it can get very noisy, actually all these places can, but Cookie seems pretty crowded a lot of the time. They also serve Thai food
Taphouse - in St Kilda/Balaclava - what I love about taphouse is you can get a tasting paddle w 5 beers. They have a huge selection on tap and it changes fairly often, they also serve food, which is better than average pub food.
Catfish - at the beginning of Gertrude - have only been there once, they have a decent selection of beer and serve philly cheesesteaks, which I haven't yet tried.
Beermash - this is a place to fill up a squealer or growler, nice people, you can taste lots of beers, they have maybe 20 taps. on Gertrude near Johnson
Purvis - on Bridge St in Richmond - huge selection of bottles of beer
I'm also on untappd , if anyone wants to be friends there. It is a good way of finding beer. Still on our list to try: Moondog brewing.
