While searching for a place to get a water I stumbled upon a small beek jerky place - Jung Dried Beef (?) - on Mulberry, a few stores south of Bayard and just north of Tasty Dumpling.
They had about 8-10 5 gallon jugs (like those used for water coolers) filled with beef and pork jerky. Don't know why I didn't pick some up then, but went back a few days later to find they only had 4 of the jugs with jerky.
Oh well...picked up a taste of each - sweet beef, sweet pork, spicy pork and spicy beef. The spicy jerky was not spicy at all, and all flavors were fantastic. Brought some to a few friends and they wanted more.
Anyway, will head back in a few days to see if they've re-filled the rest of the jugs. I'll try and report back once I've tried more varieties.
I'm pretty sure that they make it on site. My only clues were a meat slicer in the back and two people behind the counter removing basketball size pieces of raw meat from plastic bags and removing the excess fat.
Then walked up the block and down Bayard and saw ANOTHER jerky place. Then did a search on chowhound and found a few others - Wow! I never suspected that there were stores that made/sold only beef jerky.
Has anyone been to this place on Mulberry?
I will never eat pre-packaged jerky again!
