Beef in freezer

I have a few cuts of beef left in my freezer from a large purchase 20 months ago. I know the various suggestions on maximum storage time (anywhere from 6 to 12 months, it seems) but my question is the following: what happens if I prepare meat that's been frozen for the better part of 2 years? Are there dangers, or simply lousy tasting beef?
