Beef cheeks in Sacto--a report

Thanks to everyone who replied. My errands today took me near Lee's Food King, so I stopped there. Haven't been there in a number of years & they have changed with the times--they are now about half Asian, half Mexican. Tofu next to nopales next to chayote next to bok choy. And, there in the frozen food case were packages of beef cheeks. However, my beef cheek project got waylaid, because next to the cheeks were packages & packages of chicken feet. Chicken feet, which make the finest chicken stock. Some of the packages were a bit freezer burned, but I found a couple that looked good. Also got the beef cheeks. And, given the Asian/Mexican mix. an unlikely collection of stuff--achiote paste and Vietnamese garlic sauce and chipotles and nam pla and so on.

So the beef cheeks are stilll in the freezer and I am making chicken soup this weekend. But I appreciate the list of carnecerias and I have saved it for further exploration. The beef cheeks will eventually be used in a recipe I want to try, called "tongue 'n' cheek"--a stew of beef tongue & beef cheeks.
