Beef, beef and more beef

My brother, sister-in-law and nephew were up for the weekend.

Started out Friday night at L St. Diner. They were looking for steak tips and a casual place so I figured we'd try it. The tips were meh to OK, the mashed potato was real and good, the carrots way overcooked.

On Saturday we went back and forth about dinner. I made reservations at the Oak Room on the assumption that they were doing RW that night. Called to double check and was told they were not so cancelled the reservations.

Then found out the brother made reservations after I had cancelled them so, fine. We'll go and pay an arm and a leg.

Nope, he calls me from his hotel to say he'd forgotten to pack his suit (and only had jeans with him) so cancelled the reservation he had made.

Oy vey!

We ended up at Brasserie Jo and for about $10 less than the Oak Room he got his ribeye. I got the RW menu-salad of pea tendrils, gorgonzola, hazelnut, entree of glazed short ribs with brussel sprouts and parsnip puree and ended the meal with with chocolate pot de creme.

Before they headed back to CT yesterday we hit the New Bridge and had the best steak tips I've had there for a while-juicy, nice char, tasty marinade. And will enjoy them again tonight for dinner!

Don't need to see beef again for at least a month!
