"Waiting for www.chowhound.chow.com"
You know, Chowhound team, the more so-called features you add, the more your site slows down. Maybe that should tell you something?
Waiting for a thread listing to load, for a reply or edit window to open up, for a post to be be accepted, for a "there's a slight problem" error message to appear, for your browser to tell you the connection's been interrupted -- it may only be a minute or two each time, but over the course of a day, it adds up. And that's not mentioning the time spent writing the posts that never post, that disappear into the ether. When you consider that it's happening to thousands of users, not to mention untold lurkers, we're talking about quite the drag on productivity, eh?
I'm sure I'm not the only user who could care less about Places Mentioned links and pint-sized Google maps and star ratings and all the other brand new bells and whistles, who would drop them in an instant in hopes it would make the site less arthritic.
And what's with replacing the "useful" listing of the avatars of posters in the thread with useless eye candy like the Photo Gallery? (And, btw, can it be a gallery if there's only one photo?) The "useful" is in quotes because, given the high percentage of Blue Man Stupe icons, the avatar listing is actually far less useful than the former listing of posters' handles.
Am really wondering whether your primary mission has changed from providing a forum for the intelligent discussion of finding good chow to outyelping Yelp and outzagating Zagat.
