beans again

so i had a bag of dried beans that i want to use in a minestrone soup tonight. so i rinsed and sorted them then i did a quick soak by filling a pot with cold water and bringing it to a boil cover and remove from heat and set an hour. i just went to reinse them and fill it back up to cook but when i squeezed one it mushed like it was cooked. i know its important to cook red beans properly because they can be toxic or something not sure what i should do don't want them mushy ideas?
