Bday dinner (Indian) reco -- Angon? Haveli?

I've just read through all the Indian-food related posts on the Manhattan board (phew!) and still want some specific advice. I am going with a group of 6 people to celebrate a birthday this Saturday. I'm interested in atmosphere as well as food. In terms of atmosphere, something that's not overly loud would be great; something nicely decorated would be outstanding (anything affordable that looks like Ambassador 21 in Jackson Heights?).

The rub: one of the party is low on funds, so having some affordable choices is key; another of the party is the sort that doesn't leave the middle-island, so we must keep it in Manhattan.

I live in Woodside, and have recently loved going to Spicy Mina's. Looking over the menu at Angon, I can clearly see the association. A recent review of Angon seems to suggest that it is still really good, although Mina has clearly left.

i've also read good things about Haveli outside of this board.

Basically, which would be better overall? Or is there yet another place that i'm overlooking?

thanks, alekz
