So I finally got to Daisy Mays BBQ. This is the forth and final stop on my BBQ tour of NYC. The thing that has been most interesting about my tour is the great differences in food styles and the presentations. If we were in Kansas City, Texas or Memphis the BBQ would be referred to as those styles. NYC good or bad has every iteration of BBQ and maybe starting to develop a little style of its own. Daisy Mays is at one end of the spectrum and Blue Smoke at the other. Daisy Mays counter service to Blue Smokes tables service. Where I come from counter service is the norm and the way I prefer it. I am use to going up to the counter, with a skilled cutter and pointing at what I want and telling them how much I want. This is where Daisy Mays fell apart for me. You can see all there food pre-maid just sitting there on a steam tray. There is no cutting going on just a lot of scooping. Anyway I went ahead and ordered. I had a pulled pork sammy. A chopped beef sammy and some KC style ribs. The pulled pork was the best of the bunch, it had decent flavor but not enough smoke. The chopped beef was just that. It was chopped and drowned in sauce. When I order bbq I want to be able to taste the meat not sauce. When I order brisket I want to know its brisket. I felt like this sandwich could have been any type of meat just hiding under sauce. The ribs were not good at all. No flavor and on the dry side. The sides were ok. I had the beans and the slaw. The beans are ok but not even close to Rubs and the slaw was just ok but it did help cut the bbq. Anyway Im going to give my honest rating of all four places. Remember this is only my opinion and we all know about opinions. Im basing my choices mostly on food quality.
1. Rub BQQ had the best food hands down. They also have very good service.
2. Dinosaur good food fun place to hang
3. Daisy Mays- pretty good food
4. Blue Smoke- Anything but the BBQ, good bar and service.
Cheers and thanks for all the food help.
