Had an interesting visit last weekend. Based on some good reports here about their BBQ brisket and the fact that it would take Local Smoke over an hour to fill a take out order last Saturday at 7:30 PM, I decided to give Tre Colore' a first time visit. I ordered a BBQ Brisket dinner (brisket + fries) and 1/2 rack of ribs. Total before tax was $24.90. So I hand the cashier (college-age programmed robot) a coupon offering $5 off any BBQ order of $25 or more. She immediately returns the coupon to me stating it cannot be used for this order. I say "this is my first time to this store (and probably my last) and you are willing to lose my future business over a dime?" She says "rules are rules and I have to follow the rules." I ask to speak to the owner/manager and she goes into the kitchen and comes out with the cook who authorizes her to give me the discount. Then she proudly states "I'm going to give you the discount!" I say "Of course you are, and hopefully the quality and taste of the food will make up for your lack of customer service, and you will not lose my future business."
Turns out the BBQ was pretty good. Brisket was tasty and tender, fries were crispy, ribs were OK, a little dried out, but did fall off the bone (if you like that feature).
Despite the terrible way she in initially refused to take my coupon, it is worth another visit and hopefully the owner/manager will teach their employees that it is always better to be accommodating to customers (especially new ones), than "strictly adhering to the rules."
