Yesterday we were in Napa at a winery wine club member BBQ. It was catered again this year by the guys from Santa Rosa. Now, last year it was Stim's Texas Style BBQ. However, they have changed their name, it's now Black Bean BBQ. I didn't ask why.
Still, it was very good, had pork ribs (not babybacks), brisket and chicken which I didn't sample. Sides were potato salad, slaw and, of course, black beans. Sauce was served as it should be, on the side. I know they "bought" their sauce recipe in Texas, I think from a BBQ master in the Fredricksburg area (hill country). It's a good style Texas sauce, not real thick and not overly sweet and with very little "heat." It reminds me of a lot of BBQ joints in Texas.
Thought the ribs were probably the best part, tender, good smoke very nice. Brisket was good although I thought just a little dry but he did bring me over a "burnt end" piece that was simply wonderful. Thought the slaw was better than the potato salad.
So, next time you're in Santa Rosa, look up Black Bean BBQ and give it a try. Certainly one of the better I've had since moving here.
